According to a foreign news agency, a total of 280 goals have been scored so far in 96 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Argentina secured the honor of being the tournament’s highest-scoring team with 14 goals, while Argentina captain Lionel Messi remained the top scorer of the World Cup with 8 goals. With this, Messi’s total goals in World Cup matches reached 21.
For the first time in World Cup history, three players scored seven or more goals in a single edition of the tournament. Along with Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland also scored seven goals each, securing places among the top scorers.
Mbappé increased his goals in the knockout stages of the World Cup to 11, which has become a notable record.
According to the report, a total of 3,000 goals have now been completed in FIFA World Cup history, while the historic 3,000th goal was scored by Argentina’s Enzo Fernández.
