Karachi (Showbiz Desk): Veteran Pakistani showbiz actress Asma Abbas has expressed concern over the growing trend among the younger generation of favouring expensive brands, saying her family still buys clothes from Landa Bazaar and she herself has no hesitation about shopping there.
Asma Abbas recently appeared as a guest on a private television programme, where she discussed various topics and shared her views on the growing tendency to flaunt expensive brands.
The actress said the younger generation had begun identifying things by their brands rather than by what they actually were. Instead of simply saying what kind of bag they own, people mention the brand that makes it. According to her, this reflects how important brand names have become in society.
Giving an example, Asma Abbas said that even socks are now expected to prominently display a brand name such as Nike so that others can identify the company they belong to. In her view, this trend has made shopping and choosing everyday items unnecessarily complicated.
The actress said her own habits remained unchanged and that she still shops at Sunday markets. She also raised her children with the same mindset, teaching them that the value of clothing or any other item lies not in having an expensive brand name but in its quality and personal appeal.
Asma Abbas added that if she liked something at Landa Bazaar, she would have absolutely no hesitation in buying it.
