Bangladesh Register Historic Win Over Australia, Beat Them in ODI After 21 Years

Mirpur (Sports Desk): In the opening match of the three-ODI series, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 86 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 284 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 86 runs, while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 67 and Tanzid Hasan made 54.

For Australia, Nathan Ellis took 3 wickets, while Liam Scott and Matt Renshaw picked up 2 wickets each.

Chasing the target, the Australian team struggled and were reduced to 191 for 9 in 42.2 overs when rain interrupted play and the match could not resume.

Later, Bangladesh were declared winners by 86 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Nahid Rana starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for Bangladesh.

This victory holds historical significance as Bangladesh have defeated Australia in ODI cricket after 21 years. Their last win against Australia came in 2005 at Cardiff.

The second ODI of the series will be played soon, followed by scheduled T20 matches.
