Bezos Predicts Millions Will Live in Space

Rome (Web Desk): Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos has predicted that space technology will advance so significantly over the next two decades that millions of people will be able to live beyond Earth. He said that in the future, using robots rather than humans to carry out difficult tasks on the Moon and other locations will prove more efficient and less expensive.

Jeff Bezos shared these views during a discussion at Tech Week 2025 in Italy. He said there are several reasons to be optimistic about the future today, as continuous technological advancements are creating new possibilities for human life.

According to Bezos, millions of people will be living in space over the next two decades. He believes that most of them will settle there out of personal interest and desire, rather than because human presence will be essential for carrying out specific tasks.

He explained that if a task needs to be performed on the lunar surface or at another location in space, robots can be sent there, which would be less expensive than transporting humans beyond Earth.

Artificial Intelligence and the Human Future

Speaking about concerns over job losses caused by artificial intelligence and the future of human civilization, Jeff Bezos said that inventions generally increase prosperity across society. According to him, inventions such as the plough played an important role in improving human life thousands of years ago, and modern technology will continue this process.

Jeff Bezos is not the only one optimistic about the prospects for living and working in space. OpenAI chief Sam Altman has also predicted that young people graduating from universities over the next ten years could find attractive, well-paying jobs in space. He believes that future professional opportunities for young people will be more exciting than those available at the beginning of the previous generation's careers.

Plans for Human Settlement on Mars

Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk is also a supporter of plans to take humans to other planets. He believes that humans could reach Mars by 2028, while SpaceX's plans for test flights of rockets carrying humans have also been under discussion.

In this regard, Voyager Technologies founder and Chief Executive Officer Dylan Taylor told the American magazine Fortune in August 2026 that the concept of humans living and working in space was no longer just a distant dream, and that this progress could begin in the early years of the 2030s.

However, these predictions by experts and figures associated with the space industry reflect future possibilities. The advanced technology, enormous costs, safe living conditions, and other practical arrangements required for large-scale permanent human settlement in space remain major challenges. Therefore, the settlement of millions of people in space will depend on scientific and technological progress in the coming years.
