New York (Web Desk): Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has warned that unsafe use of artificial intelligence could lead to an increase in cyberattacks next year, while the risks of using the technology for criminal purposes are also growing.
In an interview with US media, Gates said AI-powered cyberattacks could become a major threat in the near future. He said the primary concern was not the technology itself becoming uncontrollable, but individuals misusing it for harmful purposes and bypassing security barriers.
He stressed the need for strict regulations and effective safeguards to prevent criminals from exploiting AI for cyberattacks and bioterrorism.
According to Gates, if advanced AI systems fall into the wrong hands without adequate security measures, they could have serious consequences, particularly in the field of cybersecurity.
The Microsoft co-founder also warned last August that the world was not fully prepared to manage the major changes brought about by artificial intelligence, particularly its potential impact on employment.
He also disagreed with US President Donald Trump's position that companies developing AI could effectively control these risks through self-regulation and oversight.
Gates argued that oversight of artificial intelligence, one of the most dangerous technologies developed by humans, cannot be left solely to the companies involved, as existing safeguards are insufficient to protect society.
