New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): The protest by the youth-led “Cockroach Movement” continues in India, with activists gathering in Delhi today and preparing to march towards Parliament.
According to the British news agency, protesters have continued their demonstration despite police barriers and are demanding the resignation of the Education Minister.
The political group, formed a few months ago, and its protest activities along with the planned march toward Parliament are being described as a major challenge for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The group claims to have support from millions of people on social media and says it has successfully mobilized citizens across the country.
Reports state that the movement gained further momentum after police shifted social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a hunger strike, to a hospital on Saturday.
Following the incident, his supporters began gathering at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to participate in the march during the Parliament session. Authorities have made strict security arrangements in the area, while police and paramilitary forces have also been deployed.
A possible confrontation with police is being feared if protesters attempt to march towards Parliament, which could increase tensions in the area.
The protesting activists are also raising slogans demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
