Islamabad (Pakistan News): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were taken in accordance with the Constitution and that no sympathisers of terrorists remain in the provincial cabinet.
Addressing a press conference alongside Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar said a government that sympathises with terrorists or adopts policies that allow them to continue their activities cannot function in the country.
He said the government had been holding talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding counterterrorism measures and a joint strategy. He questioned how two different policies could be adopted to deal with terrorism within the same country.
The information minister said the framers of the Constitution had included relevant provisions in the 1973 Constitution specifically to address such circumstances. Therefore, he added, measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been taken within the constitutional and legal framework.
Attaullah Tarar claimed that the province’s governance system had become completely paralysed and that the law and order situation was extremely poor.
He further said that, according to reports, representatives of other political parties were not even being given safe passage in areas where terrorist organisations were active.
Referring to PTI’s march, the federal information minister questioned how the march had been allowed to pass safely through those areas if terrorist organisations were active there. According to him, reports had also emerged of coordination with terrorist organisations regarding the march’s passage through these areas.
