The CPPA has requested an increase of 82 paisa per unit in electricity prices. NEPRA will hear the application related to the May monthly fuel adjustment tomorrow.

If approved, the increase could place an additional financial burden of approximately 12 billion rupees on consumers.

According to data, 12.638 billion units of electricity were generated during May, while the average fuel cost was recorded at 9.25 rupees per unit. The expected cost for the same period was set at 8.43 rupees per unit.

During May, 33.27% of electricity generation came from hydropower, 11.66% from local coal, 13.54% from imported coal, 0.16% from furnace oil, and 8.31% from local gas.

NEPRA will review CPPA’s request and finalise its decision after examining the data.
