Lahore (Sports Desk) — Following Pakistan’s poor performance in the first two Test matches against England, major changes have been made to the squad during the series, with seven players being dropped.
Surprisingly, some of the players dropped were not even part of Pakistan’s playing XI in either of the first two Test matches.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision has faced strong criticism from former cricketers.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who guided Pakistan to the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup, expressed surprise at the decision, saying he could not understand the logic behind the move, while the selection of the replacement players was also beyond his understanding.
Afridi questioned what kind of strategy it was to include players from the 20-over format in the squad to play Test matches in England. He also questioned this approach.
The former captain also asked why the coach was removed from his position after just five Test matches.
He said that this was by far the most surprising decision made by a selection committee comprising such experienced selectors.
