London (Sports Desk) — England captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the decisive ODI match against Sri Lanka.
Buttler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring while attempting to take a run during the second ODI at Headingley on Thursday. Despite the injury, he faced two more deliveries before later retiring hurt.
Buttler scored 69 runs in the second ODI, his highest individual score in ODI cricket over the past three years. However, England lost the match by 16 runs.
Jordan Cox is expected to take over wicketkeeping duties in place of Buttler in Sunday’s decisive match at The Oval, while Dan Lawrence has been added to the squad as an additional replacement.
England currently does not know the severity of Buttler’s injury, with further information expected after an MRI scan next week.
Dan Lawrence has been called up following his impressive performance in the recent Test series against Pakistan. He has also scored his sixth first-class century for Surrey this season.
