Karachi (Pakistan News) Due to the increase in petroleum product prices, the fishing sector has recorded an estimated 20 percent decline, resulting in reports of livelihood losses for thousands of people.
Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Muhammad Ali Malkani said in a statement that rising fuel prices have severely affected fishing activities. He added that the government is introducing a new relief scheme in view of the situation.
He said that under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided to registered boat owners, under which owners of large boats will receive 200,000 rupees per boat, while owners of small boats will receive 100,000 rupees.
According to the minister, this assistance will be a one-time payment aimed at covering approximately two months of fuel expenses. A total of 9,634 registered boat owners will benefit from this scheme, and the distribution of funds will be carried out through a digital system.
