Dubai (Sports Desk): The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 will be played with more teams than the previous two World Cups, with 14 teams participating for the first time.
Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured direct places in the World Cup by virtue of hosting the tournament, while the top eight teams, excluding the host nations, in the ICC ODI rankings to be released on September 30 will also qualify directly for the tournament.
Afghanistan has almost secured its place among the top eight after a thrilling victory over Ireland in Belfast.
Thus, in addition to defending champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be among the teams qualifying directly for the World Cup, while South Africa and Zimbabwe have already become part of the tournament as hosts.
