PARIS (Monitoring Desk): Marine Le Pen, the presidential candidate of France’s far-right National Rally party, has said that the country’s current economic situation does not allow it to provide further financial assistance to Ukraine. She cited the budget deficit and sluggish economic growth as the main reasons behind her position.
Le Pen said that if she wins the 2027 presidential election, her government will end financial assistance to Ukraine. However, she indicated that existing aid could continue for the first six months after taking office to prevent Ukraine from facing sudden financial difficulties. Assistance would be halted after that period.
Le Pen said France had already taken on substantial financial commitments to support Ukraine. Referring to the European Union’s €90 billion loan package, she said France’s share amounted to approximately €18 billion, which she described as a significant burden on the French economy.
She maintained that France could continue providing limited military and practical support, but large-scale financial assistance was no longer affordable for the country.
