Glacier Lake Outburst Alert Issued in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR (Pakistan News) — The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert over the risk of glacier lake outburst in the upper districts of the province.

According to PDMA, there is a risk of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and possible flooding in upper areas from July 19 to 25.

The authority has directed the district administrations of Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Bahrain, Upper and Lower Kohistan, and Mansehra to remain on high alert.

PDMA said that rainfall could accelerate glacier melting, which may lead to rising water levels in rivers. Rescue agencies have also been instructed to keep emergency machinery, staff, and relief equipment fully prepared.
