Karachi (Commerce Desk) — The government has formally approved the import of 750,000 metric tons of wheat to meet the country’s requirements, following which the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has issued an international tender for the import.
According to the TCP, the wheat to be imported must consist of the fresh crop of the current year, while offers from international suppliers will only be accepted if they are for at least 50,000 metric tons of wheat.
Under the terms of the tender, the wheat will be delivered to the ports of Karachi and Gwadar on a CFR basis. Suppliers can submit their bids until September 16, and the tenders will be opened on the same day.
According to the TCP, the imported wheat will be distributed while taking into account the requirements and demand of the provinces. Sindh will receive 300,000 tons, Punjab 250,000 tons, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 200,000 tons of wheat.
According to data from the Economic Survey 2025-26, Pakistan’s annual wheat consumption is approximately 31.3 million tons, while wheat production in the country during the last fiscal year was recorded at 29.61 million tons.
