Hesson: New central contract to boost player performance

Lahore (Sports Desk): Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has said that the new central contract system will play an important role in improving players’ performance and professional development.

In a special interview with Express, Hesson said the new contract structure allows players to focus more on formats where they can perform better, instead of trying to maintain equal performance across all formats.

He said players often struggle to give full attention to a specific format while trying to prove themselves in all formats, and the new system will help them utilise their strengths more effectively.

Hesson added that initially there was some confusion among players regarding the new system, but their concerns were addressed and its benefits have now become clearer.

He said the impact of the contracts will become more evident once they are fully implemented.

Talking about the ongoing white-ball camp in Lahore, Hesson said it is progressing well and has provided an opportunity to observe several players closely who had not been worked with in detail before.

He said the initial phase of the camp focused on fitness and injury prevention, while the recent phase has shifted towards skill development.

Praising young talent, Hesson said some new players are delivering impressive performances. He specifically mentioned fast bowler Abdul Subhan, saying he has already performed well at the Under-19 level and shows strong line and length with good height, and his pace is expected to improve as he becomes stronger.

He added that Abdul Subhan is a talented bowler and the team management has high hopes for his future.
