Hockey Players Receiving $110 Daily, Says PHF President

LAHORE (Sports Desk): Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Mohiuddin Wani has said that national hockey players are being paid $110 per day, while measures have also been taken to improve the federation’s financial affairs.

Addressing a Pakistan Hockey League event, Mohiuddin Wani said that when he took over as president of the federation, his foremost priority was to stabilise its financial position.

He said he wanted to help the national hockey team overcome difficulties caused by a shortage of financial resources, adding that a lack of funding should not be allowed to create problems for Pakistan hockey.

According to the PHF president, the federation has also sent the junior boys’ and girls’ teams abroad to participate in competitions. Pakistan has taken part in more international hockey tournaments over the past year than it did during the previous decade, he added.

Mohiuddin Wani said modern technology had been introduced into Pakistan hockey and the services of foreign coaches had also been secured. He noted that the government could not provide financial assistance to every sport, which was why the hockey federation had also sought sponsorships.

He announced that the Pakistan Hockey League would be launched in Lahore next year.
