Hyderabad’s Niaz Stadium Handed Over to PCB for 20 Years

Hyderabad (Sports Desk) — The historic Niaz Cricket Stadium has been handed over to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for 20 years, following an agreement between the Municipal Corporation and the PCB.

A signing ceremony was held for the memorandum of understanding regarding the management of the stadium, which was attended by PCB Chief Executive Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed and Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro.

On the occasion, the PCB chief executive officer said Niaz Stadium would remain under the board’s management for the next 20 years and, under the agreement, would be equipped with modern facilities in accordance with international standards.

He said the stadium’s capacity would be increased and essential facilities would be provided for players and spectators, while a regional cricket academy would also be made operational to promote domestic cricket.

Niaz Cricket Stadium also holds historical significance. Legendary cricketer Javed Miandad scored an unbeaten 288-run innings at this ground.

In addition, Niaz Stadium has the distinction of hosting the opening match of the first ICC World Cup held in the subcontinent, where Pakistan faced Sri Lanka.
