Washington (Monitoring Desk) Donald Trump has increased trade pressure on the European Union, warning that if a new trade agreement is not reached with the United States by July 4, heavy import tariffs will be imposed on European products.
The US President issued this warning at a time when European governments and lawmakers appear unable to reach consensus on the proposed trade deal.
In a statement on social media, Trump said that in his conversation with the President of the European Commission, he made it clear that the United States wants a trade agreement by its 250th anniversary, otherwise the European Union will face strict economic measures.
It is worth noting that a few days earlier, the US President had also announced an increase in import tariffs on cars and trucks from Europe to 25 percent, after which strong concern has been seen in European circles.
