Illegal Increase in Public Transport Fares in Punjab, Government Takes Strict Notice

Lahore (Commerce Desk) The Punjab government has taken strict notice of the illegal and self-imposed increase in public transport fares and has issued directives to ensure immediate enforcement of the official decision. For this purpose, Deputy Commissioners and the Regional Transport Authority have been assigned a special task.

An agreement has also been reached between the Department of Transport and transport operators not to increase fares, while several transport companies have supported the decision and submitted affidavits.

According to Secretary RTA Lahore Rana Mohsin, various private transport companies have submitted undertakings not to raise fares, and strict action will be taken against violators.

He said that inspection teams have been activated at all bus terminals and immediate action will be taken against those who violate the government’s decision.

It is worth noting that after the increase in petroleum product prices, some transporters had raised fares by Rs. 100 to Rs. 450. Fare hikes were also observed on routes from Lahore to cities such as Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Swat, and Karachi, which caused public concern.
