ISLAMABAD (Business Desk): International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has identified artificial intelligence, rising inflation, mounting debt and climate change as major challenges facing the global economy.
Speaking on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, she expressed both optimism and concern about the future of the global economy.
According to Georgieva, shortages of energy and financial resources are placing increasing pressure on economies, while rising inflation and interest rates are making debt repayments increasingly difficult for many countries.
The IMF chief said the full potential of artificial intelligence should be harnessed, but stressed that protecting the public and businesses must also remain a priority.
She urged central banks to focus on controlling inflation and maintaining price stability. She also emphasised the need to strengthen and improve monitoring systems to prevent cyberattacks and financial fraud.
