Galle (Sports Desk) India defeated hosts Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first match of the two-Test series to take the lead in the series. In the match played in Galle, India won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 462 runs. Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant innings, scoring 167 runs.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284 runs in their first innings, giving India a lead of 178 runs. Sonal Dinsha scored 100 runs for the hosts.
For India, Manav Sathar took 4 wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja dismissed 3 players. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.
India scored 193 runs in the second innings and set Sri Lanka a target of 372 runs for victory. However, the hosts were bowled out for 206 runs. Sonal Dinsha scored 84 runs in the second innings.
For India, Manav Sathar took 6 wickets in the second innings and played a key role in his team's victory.
The second and final Test between the two teams will be played in Colombo from August 23.
