New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): According to Indian media reports, criticism is increasing over the Modi government’s policies regarding India’s foreign policy, economy, and defense matters, while significant changes are also being observed in relations with the United States.
According to Indian magazine Open Magazine, Washington’s strategy toward India has changed, and relations between the two countries are no longer the same as before. The report states that the United States now views India not only as a strategic partner but also as a potential economic competitor.
According to the report, expectations of improved India-US relations after Donald Trump’s return could not be fulfilled; instead, differences became more visible in some areas. During this period, Pakistan’s diplomatic importance increased, while Islamabad also played a role in US contacts with Iran.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also accused U.S. institutions of using negative narratives to destabilize India. The report states that in 2024, the United States filed a case against a former Indian intelligence officer over an alleged conspiracy related to the killing of Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, while allegations of fraud against Gautam Adani were also viewed in New Delhi as pressure on the Modi government.
International affairs expert Kanti Bajpai said that the special relationship between India and the United States has now become largely interest-based. According to him, the Modi government’s political policies, foreign strategy, and trade disputes have put pressure on relations between the two countries.
