Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Iran has begun setting its conditions for restoring maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, mediator countries have asked Tehran to clarify its demands for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including an end to the ongoing war and military tensions in the region.
Mohsen Rezaei said Iran and Oman have also agreed on a temporary maritime route for commercial vessels, part of which will pass through Omani territorial waters and the remainder through Iranian waters. A designated central passage will be established along this route.
According to him, commercial vessels may be allowed to use the route after Iran’s conditions are approved, which could enable the gradual restoration of maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran maintains that any agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz must take its national interests and sovereignty into consideration.
