Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan (Monitoring Desk): Iran has expressed concerns over unilateral policies, violations of international agreements, and the illegal use of power at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, calling multilateral cooperation essential in the current global situation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, in a statement posted on the social media platform X during the ongoing meeting in the Kyrgyz tourist city of Cholpon-Ata, said that Iran attaches great importance to the SCO and other multilateral forums.
He said that growing unilateral policies around the world, violations of agreements between states, and the illegal use of force are weakening the foundations of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the global legal system.
Although Esmail Baghaei did not name any country, he has previously criticized US foreign policy and actions in similar statements.
It is worth mentioning that Iran became a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in 2023. The organisation, led by China and Russia, is an important political, economic, and security forum that includes Pakistan, India, Iran, and several other countries.
The ongoing Foreign Ministers' Meeting is being held as part of preparations for the organisation's upcoming summit. Discussions are expected to focus on regional security, trade relations, economic cooperation, and strengthening partnerships among member states.
