Tehran (Monitoring Desk) — Six months after the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, ordinary Iranians are facing severe economic and daily hardships. Rising inflation, declining incomes and shortages of basic necessities, caused by the war, stringent sanctions, poor economic management and corruption, have further increased public difficulties.
The war began on February 28 with attacks by the United States and Israel, in which several senior officials of the then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other key institutions were killed. Despite this, the Iranian government remained in place, and Ali Khamenei’s son Mojtaba Khamenei was elected as the new Supreme Leader; however, the current Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Ali Khamenei, has yet to appear publicly.
According to a report by Arab media, differences exist among Iranian officials over the future of the war. One group wants to pursue a diplomatic path, while another supports continuing the war against the United States. However, both sides agree that no form of retreat in the face of the United States and Israel will be accepted.
Iran says it has reached an understanding with Oman to temporarily open a maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz; however, US President Donald Trump’s administration opposes the arrangement and is demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be opened fully and without obstruction.
Differences remain on several key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, and no significant progress has been made in negotiations so far.
According to the report, the Iranian economy had been struggling for years due to sanctions, poor administrative policies and corruption; however, the war has further aggravated the economic situation.
