Iran Warns Internet Cables and Data Centres Could Be Targets

Tehran (Monitoring Desk): Iran has warned that undersea internet cables, data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) facilities could become potential targets if war with the United States resumes.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei said negotiations with the United States had stalled. His remarks suggest that, in the event of a possible war, Tehran could extend its response beyond conventional military targets to include digital infrastructure.

Rezaei said Iran prioritises diplomacy, provided it creates an opportunity to understand issues and find solutions. However, he made it clear that if the war continues, Iran has the necessary resources to respond and sustain its response.

The Iranian official warned that any action against Iran would come at a price.

Undersea internet cables are essential to global digital communications and data transmission, while data centres and AI facilities are important components of modern digital infrastructure.

It is worth noting that the statement identified these facilities as potential targets, but no attack on any specific undersea cable, data centre or AI facility has been confirmed.
