Tehran (Monitoring Desk) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said that France’s opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons amounts to a double standard, as France itself considers nuclear weapons a guarantee of independence and security.
Baghaei said that Iran has never attempted to acquire nuclear weapons. Despite this, even the country’s peaceful nuclear programme is being portrayed as a threat.
He said that the monopoly held by nuclear powers raises questions about global peace, while the current international system promotes the dominance of a few powerful countries.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson further stated that genuine peace is possible only when the right of all countries to security and protection is recognised.
