London (Sports Desk): England’s star batsman Joe Root has revealed that he instructed teammate Gus Atkinson to focus on winning the match and not worry about him remaining unbeaten on 99 runs.
The incident occurred during the second One Day International (ODI) against India, where England secured a four-wicket victory to level the three-match series 1-1.
While chasing India’s target of 234 runs, England did not get off to a strong start as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Ben Duckett on the very first ball. After that, Jacob Bethell and captain Harry Brook also failed to make a significant impact.
In a challenging situation, Joe Root displayed responsible batting, stabilizing the innings and playing a crucial role in England’s victory with an unbeaten 99 runs.
Joe Root said that during the final moments of the match, he told Gus Atkinson to focus only on helping the team secure victory and not worry about his personal score or missing out on a century.
According to Root, team success is always more important than individual achievements.
