Lebanon faces deepening humanitarian crisis, over one million displaced

Beirut (Monitoring Desk): The International Rescue Committee has warned that Lebanon is experiencing a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis, with a failed ceasefire cited as a major contributing factor.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, the organization’s Lebanon Country Director Reck Bartoldus said his teams have been providing emergency assistance since the beginning of the crisis, but needs continue to rise sharply.

He stated that more than one million people have been displaced in Lebanon, while assessment reports indicate that around 94 percent of affected individuals are unable to meet their basic needs.

According to Bartoldus, many families have exhausted their savings and are now discovering that their homes—and in some cases entire villages—have been destroyed.

He stressed that an immediate and sustainable ceasefire is essential to prevent the humanitarian situation from deteriorating further.
