Messi Says World Cup Loss Pain Will Take Time to Heal

Argentina (Sports Desk): Argentina captain Lionel Messi has expressed his emotions after his team’s defeat against Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, saying that the pain of this failure is very deep and it will take time to overcome it.

Spain defeated Argentina in extra time of the final through Ferran Torres’ decisive goal, securing the honor of becoming world champions for the second time, while Argentina failed to defend the world title they won in 2022.

Thirty-nine-year-old Lionel Messi said in a message shared on social media that the sadness of the defeat is indescribable; however, he will always remember the positive memories of the tournament, the team’s performance, and the strong support of the nation.

Messi said that reaching the World Cup final for the second consecutive time is a great achievement, while all players showed determination, hard work, and strong passion throughout the tournament.

The Argentina captain also congratulated Spain on becoming world champions.

Messi delivered an outstanding performance in the tournament, scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists, but he could not lead his team to victory against Spain’s strong defense in the final.

Meanwhile, Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández said that the team defended the national jersey with complete dedication, humility, and determination.

He said that true success is not limited to winning trophies, but also includes making every possible effort for the team and the country at every moment.
