Mexico Beat Ecuador to Reach FIFA World Cup Round of 16

Mexico City (Sports Desk) — Host nation Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 to secure a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup.

The match at Estadio Azteca was delayed by an hour due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, but once underway, Mexico took control with an aggressive start and maintained pressure throughout.

Early in the game, Mexico created several dangerous chances, with Julian Quiñones scoring the opening goal to give the hosts the lead. Raul Jiménez then doubled the advantage by capitalizing on a defensive error.

In the second half, Ecuador attempted a comeback, but Mexico’s organized defense held firm. Gonzalo Plata came close with an attempt, but failed to convert.

In the final moments, Ecuador suffered a setback when Piero Hincapié was shown a red card and sent off.

With this win, Mexico reached the knockout stage victory in a FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986 and will now face either England or DR Congo in the next round.
