Mike Hesson’s stance: “It is wrong to assume the next World Cup will only be played on fast and bouncy pitches”

Lahore (Sports Desk) Pakistan cricket team’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has rejected criticism over the use of spin-friendly pitches in the home series against Australia.

Mike Hesson said that the perception that the upcoming World Cup will only be played on fast and bouncy pitches is incorrect, and therefore playing on spin-friendly surfaces is not poor preparation.

He stated that some cricket experts had suggested Pakistan should only play matches on fast and bouncy wickets to prepare for the World Cup in South Africa; however, this thinking is not based on reality.

According to the head coach, not all pitches in South Africa are uniformly fast and bouncy, so preparing under different conditions is necessary.

He further added that the 2027 World Cup will not only be held in South Africa but also in Zimbabwe and Namibia, where spin bowling plays an important role; therefore, the Pakistan team must be prepared for all types of conditions.

Mike Hesson emphasized that a strategy of playing on different pitches will help the team improve its performance at the global level.
