Strait of Hormuz (Monitoring Desk) — Eight U.S. Marines have reportedly been injured in an attack involving an Iranian anti-ship cruise missile.
U.S. broadcaster NBC News, citing three U.S. officials, reported that the incident took place on September 14.
According to the report, the missile struck a vessel carrying U.S. Marines. Following the attack, the personnel experienced difficulty breathing due to smoke, while some also developed symptoms including brain injuries, dizziness and headaches. However, no personnel were reported to have suffered serious injuries.
The eight injured Marines included seven enlisted personnel and one officer. According to U.S. officials, all the injured personnel returned to duty shortly after the attack.
U.S. officials said the Marines were part of a battalion; however, the vessel targeted by the missile was not a U.S. Navy warship.
Officials declined to provide details about the type of vessel or other information, referring to it only as a vessel.
According to the report, information about the attack and the injuries to the Marines was not publicly disclosed at the time of the incident. The details later came to light after the names of the injured personnel were added to official U.S. military records.
