Mohammad Rizwan Sends Third Letter to NCCIA, Seeks Clarification

Lahore (Sports Desk): National cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has sent a third letter to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding the ongoing investigation against him.

In the letter, Rizwan confirmed that he would appear before the NCCIA on October 2, saying that he had received the agency’s notice and would appear on the scheduled date to participate in the inquiry.

The national cricketer has sought further details regarding the questions contained in the new notice and the scope of the investigation. He said that the first notice mentioned allegations of online betting and gambling, while the agency referred in court to the provision concerning electronic fraud under PECA 2016. However, the new notice does not include allegations of online betting or gambling, and therefore the current situation should be clarified.

Mohammad Rizwan asked whether the investigation was still related to online betting or gambling. He also asked which specific provisions of PECA 2016 were part of the inquiry. If the scope of the investigation had been changed after the first notice, he requested that he be informed of the current scope in writing.

He also questioned whether, if the allegations of betting and gambling were linked to an issue concerning his reputation as a cricketer, the Pakistan Cricket Board, the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit, or any other relevant cricket body had been informed about the investigation. He also asked whether any information had been obtained from or communication made with these bodies.

In his letter, Rizwan also sought details regarding his mobile phone, saying that his phone was with the NCCIA and that he had already provided its password in England and at the time of his first appearance. According to him, the phone was also unlocked and checked again in his presence. However, he said that he had not been provided with a receipt for the seizure of the mobile phone, a warrant, a custody record, or any written document regarding its continued retention.

The national cricketer asked what further cooperation was personally required from him for the forensic examination. He demanded that the forensic examination be completed without delay and that his mobile phone be returned immediately.

Mohammad Rizwan said that he had still not been clearly informed about the actual allegation against him. However, he said that he was ready to fully cooperate with any legal investigation.
