Naypyidaw (Monitoring Desk) — A powerful explosion in Myanmar’s Shan State has killed 55 people and injured several others, including 25 women among the deceased.

According to foreign media reports, the blast occurred in the Kong Tate area, where mining materials used by the separatist group Ta’ang National Liberation Army were stored.

A spokesperson for the organization said the incident initially appears to be an accidental explosion, but investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.

In a statement, the group expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Local sources said nearby residential houses were also damaged in the blast, while eyewitnesses reported that the intensity of the explosion was so strong that it felt like an airstrike.
