Islamabad (Pakistan Khabar) — The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new QR code-based national identity card developed in Pakistan.
According to NADRA, the new identity card has been manufactured locally using polycarbonate material, while a secure QR code has been added in place of the imported microchip.
According to the statement, the new identity card can also be verified using an ordinary smartphone. Identity verification will be possible by scanning the QR code on the card through the Pak ID mobile app.
The QR code will contain the cardholder’s relevant identity information and photograph, while the system will help reduce errors in the data entry of names, addresses, and other information.
According to NADRA, software for QR code verification will be provided to telecommunications companies, banks, hospitals, railways, police, and other relevant institutions.
In addition to the family number, the new identity card will also contain specific symbols for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and organ donors.
