Nepal (Monitoring Desk): Nepal has once again issued a severe flood warning on August 28, 2026, while the country has yet to fully recover from the devastation of August 26.
According to reports, the water level in a large lake formed by landslides in Tibet near the Nepal-China border is continuing to rise. The lake contains more than 2.5 million cubic meters of water, and if it overflows, dangerous flooding could again occur in rivers.
After reports that a dam on the Tibetan side had broken again, Nepalese police issued an emergency alert around the Bhote Koshi, Trishuli, and Narayani rivers. Residents and rescue workers in affected areas, including Rasuwa and Nuwakot, have been instructed to move to safer locations.
At least 470 people have so far been killed and more than 1,400 remain missing in the August 26 floods. The threat of new flooding has further disrupted rescue and search operations, while China has also warned of the risk of the lake bursting.
