Netflix Secures Broadcasting Rights for 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain

LAHORE (Sports Desk): Video streaming platform Netflix has secured the broadcasting rights in Spain for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Morocco and Portugal.

This marks the first time the popular streaming service has acquired broadcasting rights for the men’s FIFA World Cup.

The US subscription service already holds exclusive worldwide broadcasting rights for the Women’s FIFA World Cups scheduled for 2027 and 2031.

Under the agreement, Netflix will broadcast all 104 matches of the upcoming men’s World Cup to viewers in Spain and Andorra. In Spain, arrangements will also be made to stream one match free of charge each day during the tournament.

In addition, a selected package of matches will be shown on a free-to-air television channel in Spain. The coverage will include every match played by the Spanish national team, both semi-finals and the final.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the FIFA World Cup continues to enjoy protection under the government’s list of major national sporting events. Under these regulations, World Cup matches can only be broadcast through traditional television networks.

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström said the expanded World Cups scheduled for 2026 and 2030 would be memorable events for football fans around the world.
