Karachi (Pakistan News): Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that establishing new administrative units is essential for Pakistan’s development and resolving public problems, as governance issues are increasing due to the failure to devolve powers to the grassroots level.
Addressing a ceremony after visiting the stalls of various companies on the final day of the Pharma Asia International 2026 exhibition at the Karachi Expo Centre, Mustafa Kamal said the organizers deserved congratulations for bringing foreign pharmaceutical companies to Pakistan despite difficult economic conditions. According to him, such initiatives would boost business activities and create more employment opportunities.
The federal minister said many countries around the world had achieved development through activities of this kind, and Pakistan could also move forward along the same path.
Mustafa Kamal said poor governance was the root cause of many of the country’s problems because powers were not devolved to the local level. He claimed that Karachi received only 3 percent of the overall resources.
He said new administrative units would be established in the future, which would help resolve public problems. According to him, it would also become possible to hold exhibitions simultaneously in different cities across the country in the future.
Mustafa Kamal said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was raising public issues more vigorously than ever before. According to him, establishing administrative units was not the concern of any single group but a matter of Pakistan’s overall development. He added that the failure to devolve powers had increased public hardships.
The federal minister further said that only a few dozen families had benefited from the prevailing circumstances, while a large portion of the country’s population was facing difficulties. Criticizing Karachi’s current situation, he said the city was now among those experiencing the worst conditions, whereas during his tenure it had been counted among developed cities.
Speaking about vaccine procurement, Mustafa Kamal said reports of irregularities had emerged in the matter and an explanation would be presented before the court. He stated that million-dollar agreements had been signed two months earlier and that China had also been approached to obtain vaccines. According to him, the country’s first vaccine policy had also been introduced.
He said that despite the small number of MQM members, the party had continued to raise its voice on public issues and would continue to do so in the future.
