New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): At least seven students were killed when a five-story private hostel building used by students suddenly collapsed in the Indian capital New Delhi, while several people are feared to be trapped under the rubble.
According to Indian authorities, rescue operations are underway after the building collapsed in South Delhi. Rescue teams have so far pulled 11 people from the rubble, while an estimated 30 to 50 more students may be trapped underneath.
According to preliminary information, water had accumulated in the basement of the building and repair work was underway there when the building collapsed. However, an investigation is being conducted to determine the actual cause of the accident.
CCTV footage of the incident has also emerged on social media, showing the building suddenly collapsing to the ground, while people nearby can be seen running toward a safe location to save their lives.
