New Method Turns Plastic Waste into Clean Hydrogen

California (Web Desk): Scientists have introduced a new technology to address two major environmental challenges—growing plastic waste and the need for clean energy—by converting plastic waste into clean hydrogen.

According to the research, the process is known as Alkaline Thermal Treatment. Experts say the method produces higher-purity hydrogen at lower temperatures than conventional technologies while reducing the need for complex sorting of plastic waste. The process also does not produce direct greenhouse gas emissions.

According to experts, only a limited portion of the world's plastic waste can currently be recycled because the cleaning and separation process is expensive and complicated.

Professor Woo Jae Kim of Ewha Womans University in South Korea said that used plastic is often contaminated with food particles, adhesives, labels, dyes, and other chemical substances. In addition, many plastic products consist of multiple layers, making recycling even more difficult.

Researchers believe that this new technology could play an important role in reducing plastic waste, protecting the environment, and promoting low-carbon clean energy in the future.
