Lahore (Sports Desk) – Olympian athlete Faiqa Riaz, who will represent Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games, is training on her own at the Punjab Stadium Lahore.
Speaking during a training session, Faiqa Riaz said that the Commonwealth Games had been announced long ago and athletes were aware of who would represent Pakistan, but no training camp had been arranged for athletes despite only a few days remaining before the event.
She said that athletes are preparing on their own and have not been provided with any official camp or special facilities.
Faiqa Riaz stated that traveling daily from home for training in extreme heat creates difficulties and affects preparations. She added that, on the other hand, India’s team has been training in Europe for a long time and is also getting opportunities to participate in international competitions.
She said that without proper training camps and opportunities for international-standard preparation, it becomes difficult for athletes to deliver better performances at the global level.
The Olympian athlete said that her preparations for the Commonwealth Games have been continuing since the National Games. The events she participated in after the National Games were all part of her preparation.
Faiqa Riaz said her individual performance at the Asian Beach Games was good, and she will try to give her best in the 100-meter race at the Commonwealth Games. She added that the Asian Games are an even bigger event than the Commonwealth Games and expressed hope of representing Pakistan there as well.
