Islamabad (Commerce Desk) — Despite the IMF and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif prioritizing improvements in economic governance, the government completed only four of the 19 measures set for completion by June 2026.
A meeting of the Economic Governance Systems Committee was informed that 12 measures had seen partial progress, while three were delayed. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed officials to accelerate implementation.
The IMF’s Pakistan Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Report had also identified serious weaknesses in the country’s economic governance system.
The government has planned to complete 59 priority and 83 complementary measures over three years to improve economic governance, including regulatory reforms and publication of reports.
