Pakistan Calls for Dialogue on Kashmir and All Outstanding Disputes, Says Tahir Andrabi

New York (Pakistan Khabar) — Pakistan has called on the United Nations to stop the arms race in the region, stating that all outstanding disputes, including occupied Jammu and Kashmir, should be resolved through negotiations.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Tahir Andrabi said that wars around the world were expanding, the rule of international law was weakening, and the path of restraint and tolerance was being abandoned.

Emphasising the need to reduce tensions in the Middle East, he said that mediation between Iran and the United States had led to progress in the form of a ceasefire and the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Tahir Andrabi said that the Makkah Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye was defensive in nature and consistent with the United Nations Charter.

According to the Pakistani representative, South Asia was facing instability and pressure because of India’s aggressive military doctrines and large-scale military expansion.

He made it clear that Pakistan did not want to participate in an arms race but would maintain its defence capabilities according to its needs. He said it was wrong to assume that war could be kept under control in the presence of nuclear capabilities.

Tahir Andrabi once again stressed that a peaceful solution to all outstanding disputes, including occupied Jammu and Kashmir, should be sought through negotiations.
