WASHINGTON (Commerce Desk): Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb held important meetings with senior officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), during which Pakistan’s economic situation and the ongoing reform program were discussed in detail.
The Finance Minister held separate meetings with IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz, Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department Jihad Azour, and Pakistan Mission Chief Eva Petrova.
During the meetings, progress on the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), and the IMF program was reviewed.
Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s improved financial position, stability in the external sector, achievement of revenue targets, strong foreign exchange reserves, record remittances, and improvement in the current account.
The talks also covered tax reforms, improvements in the energy sector, privatization, tariff reforms, better debt management, expansion of financial resources, and Pakistan’s return to global investment markets.
Both sides also discussed human resource development, women’s economic inclusion, population-related challenges, technology-based growth, and increasing exports through the private sector.
The Finance Minister thanked the IMF management for its cooperation with Pakistan’s reform agenda and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, policy continuity, structural reforms, and long-term economic development.
