Pakistan Receives Second LNG Cargo from Qatar in October

Islamabad (Commerce Desk): Pakistan has received another cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar, following which gas supplies from the shipment have begun entering the country’s distribution system.

According to sources in the Ministry of Energy, Pakistan has received two LNG cargoes from Qatar so far in October.

Sources said the government is trying to avoid purchasing expensive spot-market cargoes as far as possible because LNG supplied by Qatar under the existing agreement costs approximately half as much as gas purchased on the spot market.

According to Ministry of Energy sources, the contracted price of Qatari LNG ranges from $14 to $15 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), while gas prices in the spot market have reached as high as $30 per MMBtu.
