Islamabad (Commerce Desk) — The Petroleum Division has made a final decision to introduce a uniform gas tariff across the country from July 1, 2027, with formal approval to be sought from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to a private television report, the government is preparing to abolish the existing cross-subsidy system. To reduce the impact of this change and provide targeted financial assistance to low-income households, Rs162 billion will be allocated.
Under the proposed reforms, Pakistan’s existing 12-slab gas tariff system will be abolished, under which consumers currently pay different rates based on their monthly consumption.
Under the new system, all consumers will be shifted to a uniform average tariff of Rs1,708 per MMBtu.
The government aims to replace the existing complicated slab system with a uniform rate, while providing relief to low-income consumers through financial assistance.
