Pakistan Water Security Case Set for September 16 Hearing

Islamabad (Pakistan Khabar): The Islamabad High Court has scheduled for September 16 a petition concerning the protection of Pakistan’s water rights and India’s plan to divert water from the Chenab River.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar will hear the petition filed by the Judicial Activism Panel, which seeks directions for the government to approach international legal forums for the immediate implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty.

The petition states that India’s plan to divert Chenab River water poses a serious threat to Pakistan’s water security, while the government’s silence amounts to a violation of fundamental rights. The court has already sought a detailed response from the federal government on the matter.
