Islamabad (Pakistan News): The Supreme Court Registrar Office has refused to accept a petition challenging the 27th Constitutional Amendment, stating that petitions of this nature can be filed before the Federal Constitutional Court.
Justice (Retd.) Shabbir Raza Rizvi had challenged the amendment, arguing that the current Parliament is not a constituent assembly and that the basic features of the Constitution cannot be altered. The petition also raised objections regarding judicial independence, the appointment of judges and lifetime immunity under Article 248 of the Constitution.
The petitioner had requested the Supreme Court to declare the 27th Constitutional Amendment null and void and abolish lifetime immunity.
It may be noted that the Supreme Court Registrar Office had previously also refused to accept a petition challenging the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
